Dinnerware I Like
My first dinnerware was what I registered for when I got married. I fell in love with a particular pattern and design made by Dansk for every day use. This particular dinnerware was pretty and yet still not so feminine that my husband would refuse to eat off of it. It was bold, heavy, and durable. But with kids, even the most durable is not forever.
Still, I loved this particular dinnerware.
When most people refer to dinnerware, they are talking about things that do not fall within the fine china category. That's me, too!
Today, I like and use a simple eggshell color plain dinnerware patter n. It is thick and moderately heavy. There is no pattern involved. This particular dinnerware works just fine using it in the microwave. I think I'm more in the stage of practicality and ease of use. Plus, I can dress up this simple pattern or dress it down depending upon the mood and setting I'm trying to achieve.
Dinnerware I'm Not So Fond Of
Over the years I have inherited quite a number of dinnerware sets from various family members on both mine and my husband's sides. Honestly, if I were purchasing these for myself I don't think I would have bought a single one of them. I'm just not into the little-old-lady-flowery motif in pinks that cover every possible available space on a plate, cup, or even saucer.
One of these sets I got was for everyday use. However, it had a gold line around an inside rim. I honestly thought it was painted. Apparently not because when I put the plate in the microwave to warm some leftovers, sparks flew. So there had to be some metal in there after all. Yes, everyone got a big chuckle at my expense. I share this little story to take you back to the heading of this paragraph. I do not like this dinnerware because it does not lend itself to being used the way I do things today. Plus, a friend told me that while dishwasher safe, the automatic washing process would wear that gold rim off over time and dull this particular pattern. I don't think I've used this dinnerware since!
Many Dinnerware Options
Nowadays there are just so many options for dinnerware. I love the fact that everything is no longer round, round, round. We have options for square, rectangle, and oval plates. Some of the bowls are crazy wild designs, too. They are high on one side and scooped lower on the serving side.
A lot of people I know are using glass dinnerware for serving main meals when entertaining. One particular one used very long glass serving dishes as plates and put 3 different small bite tasting entrees on each one. Her guests loved it. She picked up these serving pieces very inexpensively just for this occasion.
What manufacturers are doing with plastic is also amazing me. I swear I've seen some plastic wine glasses that are almost indestructible that look exactly like glass. They don't feel like glass, but they work well on stone floors or around the pool.
